The best season to visit
Bandhavgarh is from February to June since the weather is more cool
and comfortable. There are mainly 3 distinct seasons. From middle of
October to February is generally cool with around 4 C in the winters, from
March to middle of June is hot with temperature reaching up to 42 C and
from Middle of June to middle of October it is the rainy season with the
mean rainfall of 1.173 mm.
There are a lot of places
where you can stay comfortably like the Bandhavgarh Jungle Lodge, Camp
Mewar, Kings Lodge, Tree house hideaway and many more. The clothes that
you need to carry can be cotton but woolens are also recommended since
early mornings and evenings can be chilly. To carry sunglasses and sunhats
are advisable. Bandhavgarh also is a great place to go for picnics at
water bodies and in the reserve forests.

The ruins of the
majestic Bandhavgarh Fort is located on the top of a lofty mountain
with a captivating view of the surrounding forest-clad hillocks,
valleys and rivers that snake through them. The Fort dates back
almost 2000 years and the scattered ruins of archaeological wonder-
arches, temples, idols, stables-tall prairie grasses and the stately
stands, thrive till today.
Through out the steep
angular climb are the man made caves carved in the walls of the
mountain. These caves once acted as guard posts. On the way up to
the fort is the colossal sculpture of Reclining Vishnu or Shesh
Shaiyya which is next to a spectacular man made pool carved out of
a single rock and is almost 20 feet in length. |
Bhandavgarh Hill:

Bandhavgarh
hills are situated in the center of the Bandhavgarh National
Park and are 811 mt above MSL. The topography comprises of great
rocky hills rising from the marshy and densely forested valley
bottoms. The hills are sided with great cliffs and eroded rocks. And
on the highest point of the hill stands the magnificent Bandhavgarh
fort.
There are numerous
caves (35) in the hills which have shrines and ancient Sanskrit
inscription and carvings which date back to 129-168 A.D. The breath
taking view of the nature and statues of various incarnations of God
attracts every tourist. These statues date back to the 10-11 century
AD.

BANDHAVGARH NATIONAL PARK

Bandhavgarh was declared a National Park in 1968 and has the
highest known density of tiger population in India. It is also
popularly known as White Tiger territory. There are more than 22
species of mammals and 250 species of birds.
Some of the
inhabitants of this park are gaur or Indian bison, sambar, barking
deer, rhesus macaque, black-faced langur, jungle cats and nilgai.
The National Park is spread over 437 sq. km. The best period
to visit the park is from October to June since the park remains
closed from 1st July to 30th September. The park can be explored on
the elephant back or in a jeep.

ELEPHANT SAFARI

Bandhavgarh Tiger Reserve is famous
for its Elephant and Jeep Safari. The Park allows entry only after
sunrise and closes before sunset, hence the timing changes with the
season. An exclusive Elephant safari is organized by the forest
department.
The beautiful experience of sitting on
top of an elephant in a teak wood chair and roaming through the cool
jungle of Bandhavgarh and watching the magnificent animals is a
breath taking experience.
You can also touch and
feed the elephants and watch them have their playful bath rituals.
There are package tours available including transfer from the
air-conditioned hotel, park admission, safari ride and buffet lunch. |
