Jaisalmer The Garden City

Jaisalmer The Garden City

Jaisalmer, situated to the western region of Rajasthan amidst the Thar Desert holds a population of approximately 5 lakhs and 8000 people. A Bhatti Rajput ruler named Raja Rawal Jaisal during 1156 A.D is considered to be the founder of this city. Similar to all the other cities in Rajasthan, Jaisalmer also stands boasted about its magnificent past. The citys history is pulled back from the history of Rajputana and the founder of the city chose a hill named Trikut hill as his new fort site since his previous site was defenseless towards enemy batter.

During ancient times, Jaisalmer remained on its focus among the masses due to its location and this city completely falls in either of the two routes which connect India from Persia, Africa, Egypt and its west. Bhatti Rajput rulers who were the sole protector of the city still existed during the time.

In modern period, Jaisalmer went to the hands of the British establishment as the last of Rajputana royals signed the agreement. As this did not persist longer, the royals again signed with them to remain independent in India during 1947. Now it is considered as western Indias cultural hub and has developed in to an important tourist spot.

Jaisalmer has varied forms of entertainment in which music and dances catch the top position as the city is rich in its multiple cultures and also include other entertainment such as discotheques and cinema theatres. The climate seems to be dry in nature being a deserted region and the summers look extremely hot while winters make a pleasant stay.
