Gulmarg is a place in Jammu and Kashmir located in the Indo Pakistan Border at an altitude of 2730 m above sea level. The word Gulmarg means Meadow of flowers. The marvellous snow capped mountains lie in the line of control. Gulmarg was identified by an Asian explorer called Sir Mark Aurel Stein. Later on the place become a holiday resort during the British rule. The main attraction is the snow capped mountains. The mountain slopes of Afarwat hills and Pirpanjal ranges have very long and very high ski slopes.

The mountain peaks cross 12,000 feet above sea level in height. One can get to the peaks through Telecabines or Ariel Gondolas. There is no resident population in the town. All dwellers are to leave the town in the evening. This is a very strict rule imposed by the government. The place is guarded by military men as it is in the line of control. The place is well connected through and Srinagar is the nearest connecting destination. Gulmarg is known for its snow capped mountains, cool climate and a variety of flora and fauna.  

The main activity for a tourist in Gulmarg is snow skiing. One can enjoy skiing in the long and high slopes of the snowy mountain ranges and experience a difference. As it lies in the line of control, identity checking is a big and time consuming process for a tourist. The whether is cold and it is necessary for the tourist to wear woollen clothes. Golfing, Sledging, and horse riding are other activities. Gulmarg is likely to host the 2010 winter Olympics.
