Sakchi was Jamshedpurs original name and during 1919 as a matter of paying tribute to Jamshetji Nusserwanji Tata, the founder of Tata Steel, was renamed Jamshedpur. Tatanagar is being called the railway station of Jamshedpur and is an industrial city well planned. In fact, it is the first cosmopolitan city in India. Jamshedpur has proportionate coexistence of industries and environment along with gardens and abundant parks enriching the city and also with pleasant sanctuaries keeping out of pressure from the routine life.

Major Tourist Attractions of Jamshedpur

Bhatia Park

Located at Kadma, near Shastri Nagar, Bhatia Park exists along Subernareka rivers banks. This park has illuminated fountains, colorful flower beds and lawns that are manicured perfectly. Jamshedpur has 17 parks each having their own significance and adds beauty to the industrial city. This is an ideal place for the families and friends to spend their weekends. Children find ample of space within the park to enjoy and have fun around. Nature lovers would find the park interesting as it houses colorful flowers. Also, the ambience and the pleasant nature of the park regenerate the happiness and energy level of the local crowd as well as the tourists.

Bhuvaneshwari Temple

The name Bhuvaneshwari can be split in to two, where, Bhuvanam depicts universe and Easwari depicting Ruler. Hence, Goddess Bhuvaneshwari is treated as the ruler of universe and Universal mother. Being located at Telco on top of a small hill, this Temple offers a birds eye view of the entire city and the natural surroundings give a breathtaking view along with the traveling river. Spiritual and serene touch of the environment adds more beauty to the premises of temple. Also within the temple campus is the famous Guruvayur temple. Vedic learning project has been started by the officials of the temple by launching informal classes.

Dalma Wildlife Sanctuary

At an altitude of 3000 feet is the Dalma Mountain Range and loitering in the thick covered jungle of 193 sq.km are the sloth beer, elephants, leopard, barking deer, tigers, porcupines etc. It serves a great delight for the trekkers as the slopes are steep and tiny hideouts are made at various places to help the people see the wild animals dwelling in their habitats. Also the view of city from the hilltop during nights is mesmerizing as it shows millions of stars twinkling around. Dalma provides its citizens with fresh oxygen as the air conditions are completely normal.

Dimna Lake

An ideal place for outing is the Dimna Lake, which is located 13km away from the limits of city, down the Dalma Hills. Its wholesome surroundings steal the hearts of visitors and crowd from different region arrive to this spot for picnic during the period of December-January. It renders a breathtaking stay absolutely and with the approval from TISCO, rooms for the tourists are allotted. As it lies near to Dalma Widlife Sanctuary, boating is immensely attracted by the visitors. This lake also serves as a water reservoir for Tata Steels plant as well as for the city, duly constructed by them.

Hudco Lake

Hudco Lake is a pleasing retreat within the city boundaries and lies in the hilly area of Telco Colony. People who desire to be in-nature find this Lake as the most beautiful and colorful spot. There exists a park called the Sumant Mulgaonkar Park which is a complete renovation of a wild hill that lies besides the lake. As the lake is mounted on a hilltop, the fascinating view of the Steel industry and also eye-catching view of Lafarge Cement, Tata Power and Tata Engineering give feast to our eyes. One could judge why the city was first called Green City and then Steel City, when overviewed from the hilltop.

Jubilee Park (Jayanti Sarovar)

Jubilee Park is located at the heart of Jamshedpur city. This city was presented to Jamshedpur citizens by Tata Steel during the Golden Jubilee Year in 1958. Occupied by an area of 237.75 acres, this green park is flourished with glittering fountains and flowerbeds. The parks focal point is the Mogul Garden being inspired by Mysores Brindaban Gardens. Also 1000 rose varieties can be captivated at the Rose Garden, while children can enjoy their time at the Nicco Park. A specially created picnic spot, called Upvan is the parks latest addition and Jayanti Sarowar, a lake, is specially deepened and dredged for boating.

Rivers Meet

Rivers Meet is well-known as Domohani and is a scenic merge of the Subarnarekha and Kharkai rivers. The view of the sunset at the Rivers meet, where two rivers combine, is extremely glorious to be watched and is highly fascinating when the sunset falls amidst the Eucalyptus trees that stand tall. This destination lies to the citys northwest tip. Due to the inability of the two rivers to provide adequate water supply to the steel plants, Sini was dropped to cater them, instead, Sakchi was chosen as the location for Tata Steel Plants construction. At present, Sakchi is a renowned town with the countrys biggest steel plants. 

Russi Modi Center of Excellence

Located near Jubilee Park in Jamshedpur, Russi Modi Center for Excellence signifies an attractive architectural system.  This center once served as a gate for the Jubilee gardens and now it houses uncommon interesting depository materials. A block for archives, library, exhibition halls, cafeteria, an auditorium and official houses for related organizations are comprised within the center. Also major documents relating to the past of the city and Tata Steel Company can be viewed here. The specialty of the center is that it is built underground virtually as the structure shouldnt be visible from the road and it takes the form of pyramid, mounds of green earth and triangle from outside.

Sri Dorabji Tata Park

Sri Dorabji Tata Park, close to citys Keenan Stadium remains a notable attraction among the tourists. This park derived its name from Sri Dorabji Tata, one among the pioneers of Tata Iron and Steel Company. Being Jamshedpurs well known park, the beauty is visible by attractive flowers, artificial fountains and sprawling gardens. To get relieved from the routine life, local citizens of the city visit this park every week as a source of mind refreshment since the park can easily be accessed. Hence the pleasant and calm ambience of the park restores fresh vigor and energy among the local crowd as well as the tourists.

 

Tata Steel Zoological Park

At the zoological park is found all varieties of flowers and animals that exist in good condition lying adjacent to their dwelling place. It is situated very close to the Jubilee Park and hence is a major retreat for all lovers of nature. However, microscope is not necessarily needed to examine the beauty and thriving nature of the park very close. Another event that attracts towards the park is the migration of birds from other countries. These birds visit during the winters and are equally exciting for people who love birds. Also a charming lake, Machaan restaurant, and a boathouse are found in the park.
