Sakchi was Jamshedpurs original name and during 1919 as a matter of paying
tribute to Jamshetji Nusserwanji Tata, the founder of Tata Steel, was
renamed Jamshedpur. Tatanagar is being called the railway station of
Jamshedpur and is an industrial city well planned. In fact, it is the first
cosmopolitan city in India. Jamshedpur has proportionate coexistence of
industries and environment along with gardens and abundant parks enriching
the city and also with pleasant sanctuaries keeping out of pressure from the

Steel city is a hearth for thousands of families. The steel plants that are
spread over 24sq.km, provides security and sustenance to a large amount of
population. Without ageing, the only steel plant in country having Growth
shop is found in Jamshedpur. Lots of other industries as well support the
development of the city with major contribution.
Jamshetji Nusserwanji Tata, earlier judged and clearly saw as a steel city,
however, he did not last until the city took root of his dream. The
guidelines provided by him flourished well with the future and Lord
Chelmsford, the then Viceroy, baptized the city in tribute, later a few
years. The city is rich in coal, iron ore, lime and manganese.
Jamshedpur is located at 22.8 degrees in North, 86.18 degrees in East
direction and its average elevation being 442 feet (135 metres). The terrain
of the city is uneven as its located in a hilly region and the amount of
rainfall it receives annually ranges to 1200 mm.
