    Fatness is a concern that is increasingly plaguing us today. It not only affects the body, it also have cyclonical repercussions. Corpulence has been linked to several diseases like diabetes, arthritis and numerous heart conditions. The holistic approach towards obesity is a better, longer lasting and more sustainable solution.

    The holy trinity of health

    Human health is said to be governed in a manner similar to that of the universe supported by a trinity. These three pillars of support are called aahar, vihar and vishram. Aahar is the food that we eat, vihar is how we exercise and vishram is how much we rest and how we do it.

    By the principles of Ayurveda, human health is said to be maintained by the balance that is played out between three subtle energies knows as doshas. Collectively know as Tridoshas, they are kuph, wata and pitta. The tendency to put on weight, which is often unavoidable with todays life style, is attributed to the kuph dosha. The excessive weight is not only unburdened food; it can also be attributed to the unwanted storage of various thoughts, desires and wishes in the mind. Thus, it helps to know how aahar, vihar and vishram purify, correct and rejuvenate the body and therefore, takes care of your health.

    Aahar or appropriate food

    The food that the human system is capable of digesting supplies you with energy for life. Food, if consumed improperly, unnecessarily or in excess, leads to improper burning or utilization of this fuel and thus, the system is choked by fat deposition. If you observe animals in their natural surroundings you will not notice any obesity in them. These animals eat to live and not live to eat. Hence, life giving foods like fresh fruits, vegetables, sprouts, nuts, seeds, grains and hubs, in their most natural, wholesome form should be consumed seasonally. These foods abound in medicinal, healing and regenerative properties which also provide the system with abundant energy. It is important to cater to once hunger and not once appetite. Satiate your hunger with nutritional foods, not unwanted junk.  

    Vihar or exercise

    Exercise or the orderly application of energy for productive physical activity is an absolute must for well being. It improves blood circulation, removes all energy blocks, challenges the entire musculo skeletal structure and addresses totality.

    Regular workouts, especially in the morning are usually beneficial to health. A complete work out should start with thorough warm ups, throughout which it is very important to keep breathing slowly and consciously. Stretching and contracting every part of the body through yoga or Pilates postures, surya namaskar, activities like jumping jacks and exercises like mock skipping benefit the cardio vascular systems, boost stamina and help the immune system through lymphatic stimulation. The work out should also include push ups and pull ups which utilize body weight for strengths and increase muscle and bone density and tone the body over all. Each work out should be concluded with slow and control moment that constitute and abdominal work out, targeting the lower, upper and mid abdominal muscle. These will also improve the sense of equilibrium and co ordination, assist in reaching an idol metabolic state and give a new lease of life to the nervous system. Thus, there will be an improvement in reflexes, responses, alertness, spontaneity etc. Last but not the least, one must either sit or lie down with the eyes shut in a state of pure being. In this state, rejuvenated and uplifted. 

    Vishram or rest

    Vishram is essential to the body because it is during the same that the body find times to repair itself. Hence, its important to a lot sufficient time to relaxation and sleep. It is important one completely relaxes the body as well as the mind, as any activity will consume the energy which is required for the restoration and repair of the body. Also, rest is essential for the correct utilization of the food you consume and efficient disposal of waste product. Pranayama and meditation also help in attaining total relaxation. The proper digestion of food (which is the bodys fuel) keeps waste to a minimum what is left is then efficiently eliminated and the body is free of toxins thus, weight and therefore, disease.

    Everyday, help yourself a little by spending sometime alone. It is important to take care of this body, this beautiful gift that nature has given you. Try to listen the singles of your body and stay in shape and health for life.
