White heads are Acne or
pimples that have a white tip or head to them. This type of Acne is formed
when a sweat pore is completely blocked with cellular material, sebum
(natural oil) and P. Acnes bacteria.
Blackheads are pretty
much similar to white heads. The only difference is that instead of a white
tip there will be a black tip. Many believe that the black material is dirt,
but the fact is that it is melanin - pigment of the skin. Blackheads take
longer time to disappear as they take a long time to drain.
Papules are pimples or
skin lesions that are devoid of a head. They would simply appear red in
color. One has to be careful with papules as scarring might occur if they
are squeezed.
Pustules are commonly
known as zits. They are often infected with bacteria and have a white head
in the center with red enflamed skin around it. They can also be yellow or
green at the head.
Nodules and Cysts are
severe forms of Acne Vulgaris and it is advisable to consult a dermatologist
if they appear on your skin. A nodule is formed under the skin and it is a
thick lesion that can be extremely uncomfortable. A nodule tends to create a
scarring and then take several months to heal. One should never try to pop a
nodule as the scarring can become more. Consulting a dermatologist would be
the best option.
A cyst is very similar
to a nodule. The major difference is that a cyst is filled with pus. Cysts
can be painful and are usually about 5mm or more in size. Trying to squeeze
a cyst is not advisable as it can cause scarring and internal infection.
The type of Acne common
among middle aged adults is Acne Rosacea. In this type of Acne the nose
become red due to inflated bumps. The most commonly infected areas are the
forehead and chin. Acne cannot be prevented, but it can be controlled. With
some medication, cosmetics and proper diet one can control Acne.
